    Carolina Herrera 212 VIP Black is a 2017 aromatic fougere EDP by perfumers Carlos Benaïm and Anne Flipo — the darker, more rebellious entry in the 212 VIP lineup, built around an absinthe-anise-lavender accord that's genuinely distinctive for a mainstream designer release. The opening is bold and immediately polarizing in the best way: absinthe, anise, and fennel arrive together with a sharp, herbal, slightly medicinal bitterness that smells like nothing else at the department store counter. The heart is a single note of lavender — but used here in the darkest, most brooding way possible, adding an aromatic coolness that bridges the sharp opening and the warmer base. The base of black vanilla husk and musk closes with a warm, slightly smoky sweetness that smooths out all the sharpness into something genuinely addictive. 7–9 hours, moderate projection. Best in fall and winter — the 212 VIP line at its most daring.
